Mission to make a smile

Nurses are ever-present in every healthcare setting, however, are not given the due notice or respect. India’s nurse-to-population ratio is at an alarming 1:670 against the WHO norms of 1:300. Even after having to work for long hours, wearing heavy protective gear, staying in discomfort, isolating themselves from their own families, our nurses, our dear COVID warriors haven’t complained or lost hope. They are taking every challenge head-on with a strong smile no matter how scarier the reality gets, only so that the stress of the pandemic does not get to the ailing patients and their families.
Given this grim situation and the constant pressure and challenge that nurses in India deal with, ‘The Covid Warrior Upskilling Program - #ThankANurse’ has been conceived by Dr. Pratap Reddy under the Aragonda Apollo Medical Education and Research Foundation (AAMERF) as a unique model for impacting nurses during these trying times.
The initiative will specifically aim to upskill 100,000 nurses across India over the next few years with a commitment to invest up to Rs. 50,000 per nurse via scholarships for advanced training across the program period. The initiative also aims to provide free content and coursework / training for all nurses in India in partnership with various academic institutions, skilling, and nonprofits. This is a begining to identify and help the nursing community to grow and gain the benefits of better training in order to nurture their careers and progress in their professional life. It aims to bring in a sense of satisfaction to nurses, and show them a clear career progression path, with multiple opportunities to find their niche competencies and build on them.

Thank a Nurse – Impact a Nurse

The goal of the ‘COVID Warrior Upskilling Program – ANGEL #ThankANurse’ is conceived to be a one-of-its-kind social impact project that will acknowledge the contribution of nurses, redefine, and reinvent their career trajectories, and empower them to succeed and grow in the clinical, management, research, and other key aspects of the nursing profession. It aims to support the contributions of the nursing community through a structured, scholarship driven, training program. Nurses from across India will be identified to participate in this initiative and through the support of their organizations, invited to leverage the facilities provided and upskill themselves.
Our goal is to impact 1,00,000 nurses across India in the next 24 months and define a clear career roadmap that is aligned to global standards. This initiative will provide a standardized, skill-based growth path for nurses, across different organizations and therefore contribute to the individual nurses’ career growth and help meet their organization’s clinical quality goals.
The initiative also aims to provide free content and coursework / training for all nurses in India in partnership with various academic institutions, skilling, and nonprofits. Partnering organizations will also benefit from an industry aligned standardized structure for training and career growth that will help measure performance and contributions consistently across the industry.

Potential Outcomes

This initiative aims to establish organization agnostic career growth path for nurses aligned to established global standards, and to build a culture of upskilling at both the individual and organizational level. The training will help to retain talent within the institution through industry aligned competency structure, leading to a significant increase in value to the country through retention of the best talent. It creates a framework for upskilling in other clinical areas.
