Course Curriculum

The “Essentials of Cancer and Palliative Care Nursing” course is designed to provide nurses with a comprehensive understanding of the specialized care for patients with cancer including palliative care. This course will provide an in-depth overview of cancer pain management, including assessment, interventions, and strategies for pain in patients with cancer. You will learn about palliative care principles, including symptom management, communication skills, and end-of-life care planning, to improve the quality of life for patients with advanced cancer and their families. You will gain insights into navigating complex ethical dilemmas and providing patient-centered care that respects patients’ autonomy, values, and beliefs. This program also covers the identification and assessment of psychological symptoms such as anxiety, depression, and grief in patients with cancer.

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

1. Demonstrate an understanding of cancer pain management, including assessment, pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, and evaluation.

2. Apply palliative care principles, including symptom management, communication skills, and end-of-life care planning, to provide patient-centered care for patients with advanced cancer.

4. Analyze ethical issues in palliative care, including decision-making, advanced care planning, and cultural considerations, and develop strategies for addressing complex ethical dilemmas.

5. Identify and assess psychological symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, grief, and spiritual distress, in patients with cancer, and provide appropriate psychological support and interdisciplinary care.
