Essentials of Surgical Nursing

The “Essentials of Surgical Nursing” course is designed to provide nurses with the thorough knowledge and skills required for safe and effective patient care in the operation theater. Preoperative preparation and sterilization of surgical equipment are critical aspects of surgical nursing practice. In this course, you will learn the preoperative preparation of patients, sterilization methods, such as autoclaving, chemical sterilization, and gas sterilization, and the proper handling, storage, and maintenance of surgical instruments to prevent infection and ensure patient safety.

Management of surgical site infections is a crucial aspect of surgical nursing practice. In this course, you will learn about the risk factors, prevention strategies, and management of surgical site infections. You will also gain knowledge on how to identify signs and symptoms of surgical site infections, implement appropriate nursing interventions, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to manage and prevent complications related to surgical site infections.

1. By the end of the course, you will have a comprehensive understanding of the roles and responsibilities of surgical scribes and nurses in the operating room. This includes learning about preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care, as well as how to assist surgeons during surgical procedures.

2. Through the course, you will learn about the risk factors, prevention strategies, and management of surgical site infections. This includes learning about infection control measures, aseptic techniques, and wound care protocols to minimize the risk of SSIs.

3. As part of the program, you will learn about the different types of wounds and principles of wound care. This includes learning how to assess wounds, clean and dress them appropriately, and monitor for signs of complications.
